The clock struck eleven at night. The whole house was quiet. Everyone was in bed except me. Under the strong light, I looked sad before a huge pile of troublesome stuff that were called “books”. I was going to have my exam the next day. "When can I go to bed?" I asked myself. I didn’t answer; as a matter of fact, I dared not.
The clock struck twelve. "Oh, dear!" I cried, "five more books to read before I can go to bed!” We pupils are the poorest in the world. Dad does not agree with me on this. He did not have to work so hard when he was a boy.
The clock struck one. I was quite hopeless now. I forgot all I had learnt. I was too tired to go on. I did the only thing I could. I prayed, “Oh, God! Please help me pass the exam tomorrow. I do promise to work hard afterwards, Amen.” My eyes were so heavy that I could hardly open them. A few minutes later, with my head on the desk, I fell asleep.

Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (廢氣). So the city began a project to improve the situation.
Under the Velib project (‘Velib’ comes from vélo liberté, or ‘bicycle freedom’) people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you don’t return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it’s only 1 a day or 29 a year! The bicycles are heavy (25 kg), and they are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!Paris is not the first city to have a project like this. But not everybody thinks it’s a great idea. One Parisian said, “These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they won’t use a bicycle — they’ll still use their cars.”
A city spokesman said, “The bicycle project won’t solve all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce air pollution. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. There aren’t any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems in our environment will get worse. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.”
25. What can we learn about the Velib project?
A. Its bikes have no baskets.
B. Its bikes are light and colorful.
C. It aims to make traveling easier.
D. It owns more stations than the subway.
26. If you use a Velib for 1 hour, you should pay ______.
A. Free. B. 1. C. 29. D. 30.27. Why do some people disagree with the Velib project?
A. The cost is rather high.
B. It’s hard to find a Velib station.
C. It’s not suitable for a long journey.
D. The distance between two Velib stations is long.
28. What’s the city spokesman’s attitude towards the bicycle project?
A. Worried. B. Positive.
C. Uncaring. D. Doubtful.C
We've all been blamed (責(zé)備) wrongly sometimes in our lives. How do we deal with it? Not with anger, hurt and tears, but in a collected way…
●If you are wrongly blamed, let others know of the true state of things at once. Do it calmly and clearly — if you lose your temper, people will stop listening or become defensive.
●If you don't find a sympathetic ear, find a person who will hear you out — a teacher, a parent, a friend, or a brother or sister who believes in you.
●If you've been in trouble before, it may be easy for people to doubt you. So win your respect back in their eyes by behaving with honesty.
●If what you are blamed for is something unimportant, sometimes it's better to smile it off.
●If you've been blamed for something serious, it's important to put your side of the story forward quickly and truthfully.
Just remember:
▲Respect your friends' secret if you don't want to be wrongly blamed for making them known.
▲Don't blame others without first getting proof of their wrong doing.
▲Putting the blame on someone else for what you have done wrong is weakness. Admit your mistake quickly.
▲If someone else is wrongly blamed, stand up for that person.
▲Don't pass the responsibility to others.

Do you often lose things? Don’t worry. Now a new tool, which can be connected to any object you might lose, may be the way to solve your problem. The Tile, a small square linked up to your iphone or ipad by means of Bluetooth, lets you see how close you are to your missing item, within a 50-to-150-foot range (范圍). If the item goes out of your phone’s 150-foot range, it can still be found on other smart phones with the same app.
When you drive the app on your phone, it shows you, with green bars that increase or decrease, how close or far away you are from the Tile. You can also program it to make a sound when you get close to the Tile. And you can link up your phone with up to ten Tiles. And if your lost object — a dog, for example, or a stolen bike — go out of your own phone’s 150-foot Bluetooth range, you can set it as a “lost item”. If any of the phones with the Tile app comes within range of your lost item, a message will be sent to your phone, telling you its position. The Tile app also has the function to remember where it last saw your Tile, so that you can easily find where you left it.
Since the Tiles use Bluetooth rather than GPS, they are never out of battery or needn’t to be charged, and they work for one year before needing to be replaced. And the app works with all generations of iPhones and iPads.

32. What can the Tile app help you?

A. What the Tile app is.
B. How the Tile app works.
C. Why the Tile app was created.
D. What the advantages of the Tile app are.

A. The Tile need be charged after a year of use.

D. A missing item can’t be found if it goes out of your phone’s Bluetooth range.

For many high school students, it seems that there is never enough time. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.

3. Decide on the time that is good for you to do certain things. If you are more of a morning person, try getting up an hour earlier and do schoolwork before school. Review your notes every day. 38 If you spend a few minutes at the end of every day going over what you learned, it will mean less time studying when it is time for the exam.
4. 39 Studies have shown that getting enough rest helps your memory. When you are tired, everything seems more difficult. It is best to stay on a regular sleeping cycle as much as possible.
5. Tell your friends and family about your work timetable. Explain that you will be working at certain times and ask them not to disturb you. 40 you can call your friends later.
