Close contacts between Japan and the rest of the world were created in the twentieth century. In the last forty years, business contacts between Japan and the West have become very important. Many foreign companies now have offices in Japan and Japanese businessmen do business around the world. Differences between Japanese and Western ways of doing business, however, often bewilder foreign businessmen and make doing business in Japan difficult for foreigners.

The American businessman, for example, wants to start talking business immediately. He does not want to wait. The Japanese businessman, on the other hand, likes to arrive at decisions after giving them serious thought. Another thing foreign businessmen have difficulty in understanding is when a Japanese means “Yes” or “No”. This is because of cultural differences between Japanese and Western society(社會), which make it difficult for a Japanese to say “No” directly.

In the USA, it is easy to say “No” to something one does not want to do. But in Japan, it is very difficult to say “No”. To refuse an invitation or a request(請求) with “No” is felt to be impolite. It is thought to be selfish and unfriendly. So instead of saying “No” directly, the Japanese have developed many ways to avoid(避免) saying “No”. These can help them avoid hurting other people's feelings. However, this often makes their ways of doing business rather difficult for foreigners to understand and follow.

        76. What often makes foreigners feel difficult to do business in Japan?

        A. Their different ways of doing business.

        B. Their different lifestyles.

        C. The fact that the Japanese never say “No”.

        D. The fact that the Japanese are slow to take action.

        77. Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined expression “bewilder foreign businessmen” in Paragraph One?

        A. Cause foreign businessmen to change their minds.

        B. Give a feeling of surprise to foreign businessmen.

        C. Attract foreign businessmen's attention.

        D. Make foreign businessmen think wrongly.

        78. What fact does the passage lead you to believe?

        A. American businessmen do things more slowly than Japanese ones.

        B. American businessmen like to say “Yes” and “No”.

        C. Americans usually say what they are thinking.

        D. Americans do not say what they think or feel clearly.

        79. From the passage we can infer(推斷) that .

        A. Japanese businessmen are good at business

        B. foreign businessmen should try to know Japanese ways of doing business

        C. foreign businessmen must be more polite

        D. you must learn from Japanese businessmen if you want to succeed

        C

The tallest building in the United States, the One World Trade Center, opened on November 3, 2014 in New York. The building is 1,776 feet tall, making it the 3rd tallest building in the world. It has 104 floors. The building stands in the area where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. On September 11, 2001, a group of terrorists destroyed these twin towers and killed nearly 3,000 people. It took 8 years to build the new One World Trade Center. Does the height of the building in feet reminds you of something in history? The number is the year when the United States declared(宣布) its independence(獨(dú)立) from Great Britain.

One problem with such a tall building is how to clean the windows. Well, a platform(平臺) hangs from ropes, and workers on the platform clean windows. On November 12, while two men were busy cleaning windows, a rope of the platform broke near the 68th floor. The two men were saved by cutting a hole in the glass window.

The two tallest buildings in the world are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

        80. When did the One World Trade Center open?

        A. September 11, 2001. B. September 11, 2011.

        C. November 3, 2006. D. November 3, 2014.

        81. Who destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Center?

        A. A group of young men. B. A group of terrorists.

        C. A group of workers. D. A group of soldiers.

        82. "The number" in the first paragraph refers to .

        A. 8 B. 104 C. 1,776 D. 3,000

        83. How were the workers on the platform saved when a rope broke?

        A. By calling for help.

        B. By using a new rope.

        C. By jumping off the platform.

        D. By cutting a hole in the glass window.

        D

“I sometimes get up at three or four in the morning and I surf the net.”

“I often check my e-mail forty times a day.”

“I often spend more than three hours during one time on the net.”

“I spend more time in chat rooms than with my 'real-life' friends.”

Do you know any people like these? They are part of a new addiction(癮) called Internet addiction. Internet addicts spend at least thirty to forty hours online every week. The use of the Internet can be an addiction like drug use. People lose control of the time they spend on the Internet.

For example, one college student was missing for several days. His friends were worried, and they called the police. The police found the student in the computer lab, he was surfing the net for several days straight.

Studies show that about 6 to 10% of Internet users become addicted. And people worry about the teens because the Internet is changing the playing field for some of them. They spend more time in cyberspace than in the real world of friends and family. Is “surfing the net” a hobby or an addiction for you? You may have a problem if you have these symptoms(癥狀):

●You do not go to important family activities or you do not do school work because you like to spend hours on the Internet.

●You can't wait for your next online time.

●You plan to spend a short time online, but then you spend several hours.

●You go out with your friends less and less.

        84. What does the beginning of the passage tell us?

        A. How to become an Internet addict.

        B. What an Internet addict usually does.

        C. Where to find an Internet addict.

        D. Why to write this passage.

        85. How does the writer describe the addicts' use of Internet?

        A. It is something like keeping drugs.

        B. It is a way of producing drugs.

        C. It is like taking drugs.

        D. It is terrible to imagine.

        86. Why do people worry about the teens?

        B. They used to work on the Internet.

        C. The playing field of the teens will disappear.

        D. More and more of the teens will become addicted to the Internet.

        87. The example in the passage shows that .

        A. Internet problems are more serious among college students

        B. Internet addicts usually stay in the computer lab without sleep

        C. some of the Internet users have already been seriously addicted

        D. the police often help to find those Internet addicts

        88. What is the writer trying to tell us at the end of the passage?

        A. Don't be addicted to the Internet.

        B. Go to family activities more often.

        C. Do things as you have planned.

        D. Stay with your parents as often as possible.
