        聽(tīng)力材料

        Text 1

W: What's that book you're reading at the moment? It seems that you're interested in it.

M: Oh, the title of the book is Life on Earth. Um, I got it because of the television program.

        Text 2

M: I think we should accept Mr. Smith's plan.

        W: I'm afraid I don't agree.

        M: Why not?

        W: I don't think it's very practical. And it's too expensive.

        Text 3

W: Gosh, it's seven o'clock now. I'll be late for school again.

M: Don't worry. We still have fifteen minutes. I'll drive you there.

        Text 4

M: I want to exercise, but I never seem to find the time.

W: Why not do it first thing in the morning?

M: Sounds like a good idea.

        Text 5

M: I’m sorry that I completely forgot our appointment yesterday.

W: Never mind. So did I.

        Text 6

W: Tom, wake up! It's almost seven o'clock.

M: Oh, morning, Mom. Did the alarm clock ring?

        W: Yes, it did.

M: But I didn't hear it at all.

W: What time did you set it for last night?

        M: Six o'clock.

W: Hurry up, or you'll be late for school. Are you feeling ill?

M: No. I’m only sleepy because I stayed awake the whole night.

W: Breakfast is ready. Get dressed and get out of bed. Don't forget to wash you face and brush your teeth before you eat breakfast.

        M: OK, I’m coming.

        Text 7

M: Hi, Ann. Are you still working here?

W: Oh, hi, Jack. Yes, I'm still working part-time in a company, as much as I can. The trouble is that I'm so busy with my classes that I don't have enough time for my work.

M: Do you have a lot to do?

W: Well, not too much at the moment.

M: Are you going to go on working in that company?

W: I hope so. I really like my work, and next term, I will have more time.

M: Sounds good. Hope I'll see you around here more often.

W: OK. I hope to see yon too. Bye for now.

        Text 8

M: Do you know much about computers?

W: Not a great deal. Why?

M: I've been reading an article about computers. They are strange and are being used for almost everything.

W: Yes. But have you learned how to use one?

M: No. But I'm about to take a course on computers next term.

W: That's good. You have to know about computers. Computer knowledge is a must whatever you do. You should learn quickly or you will be left behind.

M: That's true. But first I want to learn the basics. In the library, there are computers. But it's a pity that I could not make use of them.

W: Well, I can teach you the ABCs, if you like.

M: That's very kind of you.

        Text 9

        W: Good morning.

M: Good morning. I was wondering if you can help me. I received this notice yesterday afternoon.

        W: Let me see. It's $ 10 for a lost book.

        M: But I'm sure I returned it.

W: Our records show that you checked it out on September 17 and we have no record of its return.

M: I remember it was a rainy day and I had to carry it in a plastic bag.

W: Well, our policy is that, when a book is lost, whoever lost it must pay for it.

M: I understand. Can we check if the book is here, just in case someone missed it?

W: Well, I doubt we would make a mistake about this. But you can look on the shelf.

        (Pause for two seconds)

        M: Aha! Here it is!

W: Let me see if it is the same copy you borrowed. I'll cheek the number with our records... Well, it is the same copy. We could have missed something. I am awfully sorry.

        M: Don’t worry about that.

        Text 10

Jim lived with his mother in a rather big house, and when she died, the house became too big for him, so he bought a smaller one on the next street. There was a very nice old clock in his first house, and when the men came to take his furniture to the new house, Jim thought, "I’m not going to let them carry my beautiful old clock in their truck. Perhaps they will break it, and then fixing it will be very expensive." So he picked it up and began to carry it down the road in his arms. It was heavy, so he stopped two or three times to rest.

Then suddenly a small boy came along the road. He stopped and looked at Jim for a few seconds. Then he said to Jim, "You're a stupid man, aren’t you? Why don’t you buy a watch like everybody else?"
