Thirteen years ago, my brother died. I was in severe sorrow. I remember putting one foot in front of the other—things needed to get done, tasks completed-—but feeling terribly empty inside. Four years later, I had still not gotten a job. My savings had run out.

In 2010, I began to think about rebuilding my life. When I was out walking my dog, Macarena, whom I had bought a year after my brother’s death, I had the feeling that if I could get control over my hair, I could get control over my life.

My hair has annoyed me for most of my life. It’s huge, curly and has a life all its own.

I have' countless hair stories that could easily become horror stories! For example, once my mother took me to get my hair done at a beauty salon and the stylist gave me a cut that looked like a monster!

Now, you see why mastering my hair was so important to me. I watched countless YouTube videos from a community of women who shared hairstyles, which was a do-it-yourself community I was inspired by. As I started to develop a more loving relationship with my hair, I realized my curly hair was teaching me a lot about patience. That shedding (脫落)is an important part of the “letting go” process to make way for the new. Our hair is the only part we can cut off, grow back, color, curl and straighten. The only thing we can change at will is to tell the world who we are.

Now I,m the captain of my ship. But for my hair, I would never have known that.

        B. Getting a dog for company.

        C. Acquiring a well-paid job.

        D. Fixing the problem of her hair.

        26. What can we learn from the author’s experience?

Bob Dylan has won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, announced Sara Danius, Swedish Academy’ s permanent secretary, on Oct. 13,2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Swedish Academy said it chose Dylan for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition. “As an artist, he is outstandingly all-round: he has been an active painter and actor," said the official statement. U. S. President Barack Obama congratulated Dylan on Twitter, describing him as one of his favorite poets.

Singer and songwriter Dylan is recognized worldwide for the influence he has had on music. He became a symbol of the 1960s counterculture (反主流文化)but his voice has reached widely into the American past. Since early in his career, Dylan has experimented with the combination of the literary and the musical.

Dylan had been mentioned in the Nobel prediction for years, but few experts expected the academy to extend the award to a genre (體裁)such as pop music. He,s the first American winner of the Nobel Literature Prize since Toni Morrison in 1992. The choice was met by a long round of applause from journalists attending the prize announcement. Sara Danius said that while Dylan performs his poetry in the form of songs, that,s no different from the ancient Greeks, whose works were often performed to music.

Dylan’s early rock classics such as The Times They Are A-Changin,,and A Hard Rains Gonna Fall, help to get cross the thoughts and feelings of the counterculture. The music publication Rolling Stone released a list of the “100 Greatest Bob Dylan Songs” in honor of his 75 th birthday earlier this year.

A new study, a project of the researchers from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, finds the fitness tracker probably does not help with weight loss.

The devices are designed to record your physical activity. They are usually worn around the wrist, where they measure a person’s heart rate. The research team looked at two groups of individuals. The first wore a fitness tracker and took part in health counseling (咨詢) with experts to consider the best weight-loss plan. The researchers compared this group with people who only got health counseling.

The study found that those only speaking with the health experts lost nearly 6 kilograms, but those using a lilruiss tracker lost only 3.5 kilograms. John Jakicic, the lead researcher, questioned the use of electronic devices for weight control in place of “effective behavioral counseling for physical activity and diet. ”

The study involved 470 subjects aged between 18 and 35. Some of them were overweight, while others were considered obese (肥胖的).Over three fourths of the subjects were women. All the subjects were told to increase physical activity and start on a low-calorie diet. They had their weight measured once every six months. After six months, researchers divided the group into two parts : one continued with monthly counseling, while members of the other group were given a fitness tracker. Eighteen months later, both groups “showed significant improvements in fitness, physical activity, and diet,” with no major difference between groups. However, when it came to losing weight, the people who only spoke with experts lost nearly twice as much weight.

Jakicic said,”the study’s findings are important because effective long-term treatments are needed to address America’s obesity. ” More information is needed, he added,to learn how to best use these devices to change “physical activity and diet behaviors” in adults who want to lose weight.

        32. All the subjects in the study were asked to_.

        A. start on a high-calorie diet B. wear a fitness tracker

        C. increase physical activities D. record their heart rates

        33. Why does Jakicic think the findings are important?

        A. Wearing fitness trackers hardly helps people lose weight.

        B. Physical activity and diet have no effect on weight loss.

        C. Handling obesity requires effective long-term treatments.

        D. There are great differences in fitness between both groups.

        34. What can we infer about the study mentioned in the text?

        A. The study went on for about two years.

        B. More than 120 men took part in the study.

        C. Health counseling helps lose almost 6 kilograms.

        D. Wearing a fitness tracker is useful for keeping slim.

        35. The purpose of the text is to_

        A. describe how the researchers were conducting the study

        B. indicate regular counseling for weight control is necessary

        C. convince readers to wear fitness trackers for weight control

        D. warn women are more likely to suffer from weight problems

        第二節(jié) 書面表達(dá)

        One possible version:

        Dear David,

I’m happy that you’re interested in our flea market and here is a brief introduction of it.

To raise students’ awareness of making the most of used things, the Students’ Union held a flea market on campus recently. The event attracted a crowd from the whole school, who came here to sell, purchase or swap used goods with theirschoolmates. On the market, you could find various things, from second-hand textbooks, magazines to CDs, bikes and clothes at a lower price.

In my opinion, the fleamarket not only provides a platform to save resources but also helps students learn some practical skills, which may be useful for their future job hunting.

        Yours,

        Li Hua
