mean business是表示“當(dāng)真，玩真的”，沒(méi)有兒戲的成份在內(nèi)，一心一意地去達(dá)成某件事，未必和“生意”business有關(guān)：

我還是不敢相信瑪莉考進(jìn)大學(xué)了。
B: Well, she meant business this time.
呃，她這次是玩真的。
mean business也可以表示為了某種目的而來(lái)：
A: Why are the police outside?
警察怎么會(huì)在這兒?
B: They mean business. Otherwise, they wouldn't have come here.
他們來(lái)辦事。要不然沒(méi)事他們不會(huì)來(lái)的。
1) be down on... 對(duì)……感到失望，看不起。
2) in action 在行動(dòng)中，在動(dòng)作中

【On the phone 在電話上】
與phone搭配的動(dòng)詞包括answer, speak on ,talk on。要注意phone之前要有定冠詞the?！敖勇犽娫挕笔莂nswer the phone，絕不可誤用receive, speak/talk on the phone是“在電話中講話”。而“你的電話”在英文里絕非your telephone，應(yīng)說(shuō)It's for you或You are wanted on the phone。
A: Janet, you are wanted on the phone.

B: I'm sorry. I Just can't answer the phone right now.

在這段對(duì)話中I guess not.是回應(yīng)上一句否定句，等于說(shuō)明I guess you don't make idle threats.換句話說(shuō)，如果上一句沒(méi)有否定not 語(yǔ)詞的話，就派不上用場(chǎng)了。

當(dāng)你眼前的這個(gè)人，在個(gè)性或是應(yīng)對(duì)反應(yīng)上，突然表現(xiàn)得跟平常完全不一樣，讓你對(duì)這突然的轉(zhuǎn)變感到有些不習(xí)慣，這時(shí)你就可以用這個(gè)句型來(lái)表達(dá)你的想法。

也可以指彼此的關(guān)系每況愈下，到達(dá)谷底：
A: I need more money. Give me some.

你也可以說(shuō)It came down to the point where...以表示情勢(shì)的發(fā)展已至最后的臨界點(diǎn)：
