We have to say that we have been fed up with all kinds of rubbish ads. Wethink advertising is a negative influence on society based on the following reasons.
First of all, a majority of advertisements are misleading and even cheating, causing confusion in people’s daily life.Some services and products of a poor quality even lead to the injury and death of some customers. According to a report, about 2 thousand and 5 hundred million people take wrong medicine because of the false medical advertisements, which is so terrible.
Secondly, many advertisements such as advertisements about discounts or advertisements that have celebrities as a spokesperson are so persuading that many consumers blindly buy something they don’t need actually or something whose price is not reasonable. This kind of advertisements make use of human’s greedy character arouse it and expand it. Over-consumption is a waste of resources, which does harm to the establishment of healthy consumption concepts and healthy development of economy of society. Using money to buy something useless to us also makes us feel foolish and annoying when we realize that.
Different advertisements aim at different people. The advertisements may contain information not suitable for children or teenagers. We all used to experience the embarrassing atmosphere where we watched a breast augmentation advertisement together with our parents. The images of those nearly bare women are inappropriate for children. This may mislead them. It is a key point that those advertisements for adults could have bad influence on children and teenagers.
The cost for making those attractive advertisements is included in the total cost of the product. In essence, when consumers buy the product, they pay some extra money for the advertisements, which they should not pay for. Though advertising may bring benefit to the firms, why should innocent consumers, including you guys, pay the bill? You can say that advertisements can raise GDP or CPI from the aspect of government, but are consumers really willing to pay for the extra cost due to advertisements? The answer is no, as on this point, we don’t stand for the government and business. What’s more, we are consumers.
Therefore, advertisement has negative influence on society.
